Designs by Janice was established 16 years ago and has an impeccable reputation for quality and service. It has now grown to be under new ownership with five fantastic designers, including Janice, and services a multitude of zip codes in the Central VA area.
To introduce the new ownership, it is a Mother-Daughter Dynamic Duo. They have worn many different hats working together in different avenues of the work industry. They have gone from non profit events, to corporate, to real estate and now are entering their new and exciting venture of a florist.
Their main priority is to ensure they can bring a smile during the fun times, be the comforting hand when grief strikes and support the "just because" moments. They are crazy and fun and hope to bring that type of energy to the florist world and spread some joy one flower at a time!
Meet the Team
SHIRLEY RYDER
I’ve been in the flower business since the “beginning of time,” which is 55 years of fun! Whether a behind the scenes “worker bee,” managing a shop, doing designs for a retail shop, teaching Floral Design in Adult Education or for holiday fun and event decor, I have run the gamut. In all of it, I empathize with the customer, putting myself in their shoes and giving them the kind of respect and service I would expect myself.
JANICE DAVIS
Senior Floral Designer
I was the original owner of Designs by Janice Florist, and have been creating and designing flowers since 1992. I built a passion for creating flowers for weddings along the way. I am also a lover of animals and all things beach related. 34 years of floral beauty and still in love with it as if it’s my first day.
IRENE AFRE
I have over 10 years experience working in the floral industry and take pride in pouring my passion towards the creativity in which blooms in every bouquet I create. When I am not in the shop, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, traveling and running.
ANGIE TAYLOR
I’ve been in the floral business for over 30 years. Flowers are my passion, and I love the smiles they bring to any occasion!
BRIDGET MCMILLION
I have been growing specialty cut flowers for florists, designers, and other flower lovers for the past 5 years. Learning to design with all of the blooms that passed through my hands was a natural transition. I joined the Designs by Janice Team in January of 2026
